Not so long ago, it seemed like only God himself could stand in the way of Gemma Arterton’s ascent to superstardom. Well, he did. At least as the god Zeus, as played by Liam Neeson in Clash of the Titans, one of this summer’s two major Arterton flops. The other was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, in which the British beauty and co-star Jake Gyllenhaal failed to establish any chemistry. If the films had performed the way many expected them to, Arterton could have enjoyed the same career boost her compatriot Keira Knightley received after the first Pirates of the Caribbean film made her a household name. Instead, Arterton withdrew from Hollywood, moving on to showcase an acting ability uncommon in former Bond-girls when she appeared in the highly acclaimed British film Tamara Drewe. Now that she's proven she can act, Arterton plans to anger the gods once again in the Clash of the Titans sequel, Wrath of the Titans. Let's hope the gods go easy on her this time around.
