Yes, Blake Lively had a good year, and yes, she's generally considered Gossip Girl's' breakout star. But Leighton Meester plays second fiddle to no one -- especially not that smug bitch Serena. She may not have the lead role in an upcoming big-budget superhero film like her blond counterpart, but Meester's role as a country music ingenue opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in the forthcoming Country Strong may be the movie-star-making turn Meester's been waiting for. It will certainly put her syrupy voice to better use than that misguided attempt at a music career. (What music career, you ask? Exactly.) Next year, Meester's big-screen mettle will be put to the test when she stars in Monte Carlo, The Oranges, and The Roommate, a Single White Female update that will see her terrorize Minka Kelly. If all goes well, it should be the year Meester joins her alleged rival in young Hollywood's exclusive club of elite actresses. Leighton, we have faith in you.
