Loan signings Danny McNamara and George Nurse could both start in Newport’s Sky Bet League Two game at home to Mansfield.
Millwall defender McNamara became the latest of County boss Michael Flynn’s summer recruits this week, and a place in the starting XI is possible for both him and Nurse.
Striker Ade Azeez is a definite non-starter after suffering an Achilles injury, while Dan Leadbitter and Ryan Haynes have been sidelined recently due to minor knocks.
County will lock horns with the Stags again less than three months after beating them on penalties in the League Two play-offs.
Mansfield boss John Dempster goes into the the new campaign with mixed injury news.
He will be without striker Craig Davies for another few months after he underwent ankle surgery.
Goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik, meanwhile, is continuing his recovery from a knee injury, but Hayden White is on course for a return to full training next week.
Willem Tomlinson is another absentee this weekend but Matt Preston could be available after suffering a knock during a friendly against Rangers Under-23s last week.
