BETS: Foxes are cashing in their bets early

Four people who made the gamble decided to quit while they were ahead yesterday morning.

The shrewd punters chose to cash out early for a smaller sum rather than risk the East Midlands’ club failing to scoop the trophy – which would leave them with nothing.

Some fans who bet on a Leicester title victory at the start of the season could still be in line for up to £250,000.

The largest fee paid out yesterday was to a punter who collected £61,778.80 from a £20 stake.

The Foxes, who drew 2-2 with West Ham on Sunday, are top of the Premier League but had their lead cut to five points from eight by Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs after their 4-0 romp at Stoke.

Fans of the north London club could be heard singing “Leicester City we’re coming for you” on Monday night.

William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: “Within 12 hours of Spurs closing the gap, it would appear that people started to think that the title run-in may not quite be as cut and dried as first thought.”

Such is Leicester’s potential achievement, William Hill is offering 20-1 on manager Claudio Ranieri, 64, receiving an honorary knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

And Foxes striker Jamie Vardy, 29, is also the favourite to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year at 7-2.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “They’re backing him in their droves.”
