Rachel McAdams has been a movie star ever since the one-two-three punch of Mean Girls, The Notebook and Wedding Crashers effortlessly launched her Hollywood career. But none of those films was a genuine star-vehicle for the congenial Canadian actress, and she's since struggled to find a role that could elevate her to the coveted last-name-only-on-a-poster status (although Sherlock Holmes came close). Morning Glory, however -- a middling romantic comedy -- may be the movie that finally turns McAdams into a bona fide household name. Although the film was dismissed by critics, McAdams' performance as the committed producer of a struggling morning-news show was hailed as a smart and sexy revelation. It’s the ideal vehicle to carry McAdams into a busy new year, where she'll star in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, co-star with Ben Affleck in Terrence Malick's super-secret new project, appear with Channing Tatum in some flick called The Vow and, of course, rejoin Robert Downey Jr. in the highly anticipated Sherlock Holmes sequel. If she keeps this up, Rachel McAdams might just become the biggest actress to ever emerge from Canada -- and considering Rachel Blanchard from the syndicated television series Clueless is Canadian, that's mighty high praise.
