Honeyman exit hits Sunderland ahead of Oxford clash

Sunderland’s preparations for the new season have been thrown into turmoil by the surprise departure of Black Cats captain George Honeyman.
Pending a medical, Honeyman has signed for Championship side Hull leaving boss Jack Ross seeking a replacement skipper ahead of the new campaign.
Ross will be without Aiden McGeady for the season-opener against Oxford but the Republic of Ireland international is expected back shortly after a foot injury.
New boys Lee Burge, Conor McLaughlin, Jordan Willis, George Dobson and Marc McNulty all have a chance to feature.
Jamie Mackie is expected to start for Karl Robinson’s Oxford at the Stadium of Light despite concerns over his match fitness.
Robinson has brought in six new faces this summer and all of them have a chance to feature against the title favourites.
Ben Woodburn could join Mackie up front after his loan move from Liverpool while Robinson has a number of defensive options.
Elliott Moore has joined from Leicester and will be pushing for a place alongside the likes of John Mousinho and Rob Dickie.
