Blackburn Rovers vs Charlton Athletic - Williams missing for Blackburn ahead of Charlton clash
Posted Thursday, August 01, 2019 by PA
Blackburn will be without defender Derrick Williams for their Sky Bet Championship season opener against Charlton on Saturday.
Williams has been out of action in pre-season because of a calf issue.
Sam Hart and Jacob Davenport are set to miss the clash at Ewood Park due to injury as well, and it is expected Dominic Samuel, who has been recovering from a serious knee problem, will not be involved either.
Summer loan signings Christian Walton and Tosin Adarabioyo and permanent recruits Bradley Johnson and Stewart Downing are all available to make debuts, while Sam Gallagher is in line for a second bow having returned to the club he was previously at on loan in 2016-17.
Charlton, promoted via the League One play-offs last term, have new forward Chuks Aneke and defender Lewis Page both sidelined.
Each player has been nursing a hamstring problem sustained during pre-season.
Aneke’s fellow summer signings Ben Amos, Tom Lockyer and Macauley Bonne could make their competitive debuts.
Ben Purrington has made a permanent switch from Rotherham after being on loan with the Addicks last season.
