7M - Legend's farewell? Countdown clock for Rooney's leaving?
Posted Saturday, February 25, 2017 by 7M Sport
Recently, Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney makes headlines in many major media, but he hasn't been asked to leave the Old Trafford yet, and there are overwhelming rumours about his transfer since earlier this year.
Back to the match between United and Stoke City on Jan 21st, Rooney netted an equalizer for the squad at the final minute. This brilliant goal made him become United's 250-goal leading scorer in history.
Even so, United all-time top scorer didn't earn the favor of head coach, Jose Mourinho.
After scoring the crucial goal for United, Rooney said that he is hoping to regain the starting opportunity for the club. However, when the 31-year-old striker reveals his loyalty to the Red Devils, Jose Mourinho just said: "In fact, I have no idea about Rooney's thought yet." As for his future in United, Mourinho didn't give a clear answer as well. He refused to rule out Rooney's exit, and even said that Rooney could leave for China this summer. Obviously he is no longer an automatic pick at Old Trafford.
According to the Sun, it's only a matter of time before Rooney moving to China. It was reported that England legend would receive a stunning contract with 1-million-pound per week.
Rooney's contract with United will be due in the summer of 2018. However, the club seemed unlikely to extend the contract with him, so he can negotiate with other clubs after a year. Therefore, such a bumper bid is obviously attracted by the striker before leaving the squad.
On Jan 29th, The Mirror said that Rooney was reportedly keen on a move to Chinese Super League for 3 years, which would make him the highest-paid player in the world. Are Chinese fans hopeful to see the football star in March?
Earlier this month, Rooney's agent Paul Stretford appeared in Tianjin amid mounting speculation over the United captain's future, British media said. So, is it possible for Rooney to leave before the deadline of transfer window?
Chinese Super League's transfer window will be closed on next Tuesday. Authoritative media BBC and Sky sports insisted that Rooney will stay in United until the end of this season. Although they admitted that Paul Stretford has been in contact with Chinese teams, who are willing to offer a contract with 0.75 million pounds per week to Rooney, Rooney is unlikely to move within recent days.
Then, how is the matter going?
On February 23th, Rooney put out a statement saying he will be remaining in Manchester United. He has told the world that, he wants to be a Manchester United player.
Nevertheless, does the club need Rooney now? What a harsh question, but we have to face it.
According to the Sun, Rooney’s agent was returning from China. He didn't finish the deal ahead of Super League transfer deadline.
Yes, he wants to stay. But where should be his future destination? Only time will tell.
