Conte: I had to remain focused after bookmakers “sacked” me earlier this season

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has reflected upon how important it was for him to remain focused when several bookmakers suggested earlier this season that he had been sacked.
The Blues struggled for consistency in the early part of the campaign but have been largely excellent since Conte made the decision to switch to a 3-4-3 formation and are now closing in on regaining the Premier League title.
As reported by Sky Sports, Conte said: “I was already sacked this season with the bookmakers, I was lucky to keep the right concentration and continue to work.
"First of all I think it is important to finish the season in the best way and if we are able to reach this dream for me for the players I am ready to face the risk. I am very happy to face this risk the next season.
"I am really focused with the players about this season. There are 13 games at the end this season and we want to stay at the top of the table but it won’t be easy. I am ready to take this risk if it means we win the league.”
Chelsea, who are eight points clear at the top of the table, face Swansea City at Stamford Bridge tomorrow as they seek to take another step towards winning the title.
Conte’s side have played some swashbuckling football at times this season – they have created 267 chances in the Premier League – and they have also been significantly more resolute defensively as a consequence of the manager’s aforementioned tactical tinkering.
However, Chelsea were held to a draw by Burnley in their last Premier League fixture, with that result serving as a warning that their quest to win the Premier League title won’t exactly be a procession.
