SEA OF RED: Fans have been urged to wear poppies to the game
Football’s governing body has banned tributes on players’ shirts for the World Cup qualifier on November 11.
Leaders from the England and Scotland Football Associations are to meet Fifa tomorrow.
But the Football Supporters’ Federation called on supporters to lead the tributes.
A federation spokesman said: “Fans are also welcome to wear a poppy at the game if they so choose to show their support for the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance Day.’’
They called on Fifa to let players wear poppies on armbands as they did against Spain in 2011.
Meanwhile supporters tweeted: “Let’s cover Wembley in poppies and stick it to Fifa.’’
BAN: Players are not allowed to carry tributes on their shirts
Falklands veteran Simon Weston, who suffered severe burns, said: “Who are Fifa?
"A bunch of people who make a hell of a lot of money and turn round and treat people like cattle.
"How dare they?’’
SUBSTITUTE: The England badge with roses replaced with poppies
Former RAF prisoner of war John Nichol said: “This symbol of the courage and sacrifice of our heroes cannot and should not be shunned.’’
Last night an English FA spokesman said that they were “working closely with the Royal British Legion” to honour the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
