Adriano, the latest Barcelona player investigated for tax evasion

Barcelona's legal troubles continue, with Adriano Correia the latest member of the club's squad to be investigated for tax evasion.

Leo Messi, Neymar, Javier Mascherano and Dani Alves have all previously been investigated for irregularities with tax payments and Adriano now finds his name added to that list.

The Spanish tax authorities believe that the Brazilian failed to include income from image rights in income tax statements from 2011 and 2012, Spanish newspaper El Mundo has claimed.

A total of 646,000 euros is alleged to have been kept from the taxman through a Madeira-based business network.

As a result of the investigation, the defender will have to testify in court, although a date has yet to be set.

Barcelona are only just recovering from the 21 month sentence handed to Messi earlier this month - after the No.10 and his father were found to have defrauded the state of 4.1 million euros - and the one year sentence handed to Mascherano in January after the Argentine pleaded guilty to having defrauded 1.5 million euros.

Neymar, meanwhile, is currently accused of tax avoidance in Brazil by the company DIS and by the prosecutor's office, while his countryman and ex-Barcelona teammate Dani Alves was alleged to owe 1.3 million euros in tax.

As an institution, Barcelona also failed to pay the correct amount to the taxman and admitted its guilt by paying a 5.5 million euros fine to the Spanish authorities.
