Bastian Schweinsteiger wants to take his Manchester United teammates.

The German beer-drinking festival takes place in Germany next month (and now features all over Europe on a small scale too), and the World Cup winner is hoping to be able to find the time to get his United teammates over for a few jugs of Weiss beer.

The festival is an annual event for Bayern Munich, who go along for a day with their partners, fully dressed in traditonal lederhosen.

Having come up through the ranks at Bayern and spent his entire life until now in Bavaria, Schweinsteiger wants his new teammates to sample some German culture.

And being the first ever German to play for the club, it seems he’s taking the role seriously.

But given the demands of their schedule, he’s not holding his breath.

Speaking to the German media after his Premier League debut yesterday, Schweini said:

"I spoke to Rooney & discussed the possibility of me inviting the team to the Oktoberfest. But I don’t know how much time we’ll have."

A midweek drinking binge in Germany with Wayne Rooney? What could possibly go wrong?

Not sure Fergie would have approved of that.
