Posted Sunday, August 11, 2013 by PA

Reece Hands scored on his debut as Morton opened their campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Cowdenbeath.

Young midfielder Hands gave the Ton a deserved lead midway through the first half with a swerving effort from 25 yards that beat goalkeeper Grant Adam.

Morton continued to dominate in the second period and extended their lead in the 66th minute when striker Archibald Campbell collected Dougie Imrie's cross before unleashing a left-footed strike into the top corner from inside the area.

Cowdenbeath looked for a way back into the contest but James Stevenson was unable to beat Derek Gaston from close range.

But any chance of a comeback was ended in the 88th minute as the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Thomas O'Brien picked up his second yellow card.
