Queen of the South 4 : 3 Dundee - Queens beat Dundee in thriller

Posted Sunday, August 11, 2013 by PA

Queen of the South held off a late fightback from Dundee to edge a seven-goal thriller.

Summer signing Peter MacDonald gave Dundee the lead on eight minutes when his right-footed effort beat Calum Antell and nestled in the bottom-left corner.

Ex-Dundee striker Derek Lyle levelled for the hostsas he nodded in a Chris Mitchell free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

Queens, who won the Second Division at a canter last term, turned on the style after the break. Ryan McGuffie, Iain Russell and Michael Paton all found the net in an 11-minute period to leave the home fans in dreamland.

Declan Gallacher and Iain Davidson set up a nervy finish but the Doonhamers held on for all three points.
