England captain Eoin Morgan says the return of fast bowler Mark Woods, after an ankle injury, will provide the perfect boost for their bowling attack.
England are set to host Pakistan in the first game of a five-match ODI series at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Eoin Morgan, England ODI captain: (on difficulty of selecting starting side)
"To be fair there have been many tricky decisions with the talent that we do have in the side, and obviously adding an extra man in Liam Dawson to a 15-man squad brings the option of playing three spinners, as opposed to three seamers. That's an option that we might have to take into consideration, particularly looking ahead to the winter tours in Bangladesh and India."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Eoin Morgan, England ODI captain: (on previewing the series as a whole)
"I think it's going to be a really tough series. Pakistan are a very good side and testing ourselves against Pakistan, given that we've had a couple of weeks of very good weather, conditions will probably suit them more than us. It will be a good test leading into Bangladesh and India, so we're really looking forward to it.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Eoin Morgan, England ODI captain: (on the return of fast bowler Mark Wood to the squad)
"Yeah, having him back in the squad obviously boosts our squad massively. It's not often you have a couple of guys in your squad who are bowling 90-plus miles per hour (145 kph). We've fortunately had Liam Plunkett fit for a long period of time and Mark Wood comes in and boosts that pace attack so it's great to have him back in the squad."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Eoin Morgan, England ODI captain: (on all-rounder Ben Stokes return to the squad and how they will manage him back into the team after calf injury)
"It's a day-by-day thing at the moment. Ben is obviously trying get fit back as an all-rounder. At the moment we have to build up his workload in order for him to be fit - to not even bowl ten overs, but it might be five or six overs in a game to start with. But the first couple of games we've got to look at him as a batsmen."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Eoin Morgan, England ODI captain: (on the mindset of Ben Stokes)
"Yeah, he's as hungry as ever Ben. He always likes to get involved in the game and hates it when he misses out on any games of cricket, so he's hungry to do well this series."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Eoin Morgan, England ODI captain: (on strong ODI form of the team in the last year)
"I think for us we have had some magnificent moments as a team throughout the last year and a half since we've been together. I think striving for consistency in the run in to that Champions Trophy (taking place September 2017 in England and Wales) is going to be key, because not only does that say that we're not up and down like a yo-yo, we can minimise our blips as they're called. Striving for that consistency in the run-up to building confidence and belief to go and challenge for that title is more important."
