USA's Kerron Clement discusses winning an "elusive" gold medal in the 400 metre Hurdles, while Ryan Crouser speaks about breaking his boyhood idol's Olympic record in shot put.
1. 00:00 SOUNDBITE (English): Kerron Clement/2016 Olympic 400m Hurdle Champion: "It's a surreal feeling, because I've been chasing the elusive gold medal for a very long time. In 2008 I fell short, I got silver. In 2012 I did not even place at all. I battled a lot of injuries. Had surgery over the years. And I just kept focused, kept fighting, and believing in myself. And in 2016, I knew it was my time. And I knew that I would come to Rio and get the gold medal."
2. 00:35 SOUNDBITE (English): Kerron Clement/2016 Olympic 400m Hurdle Champion: "Winning the trials, for any athlete, gives you a lot of boost, a lot of confidence. I just trust my training, first and foremost. And even in January, I made a space at home. I said: Olympic gold medalist. I was so confident in my ability, and I just trust my training, and trust every process that I did leading up to the Olympics. And the semifinals, when I ran the 48.2, I knew I was ready. And the finals, I just laid it on the line."
3. 01:15 SOUNDBITE (English): Ryan Crouser/2016 Olympic Shot Put Champion (on breaking the Olympic record): "That was, for me, almost surreal, in breaking that Olympic record, in particular. Because the person who held it from '88 was Ulf Timmermann. And growing up, I loved Ulf Timmerman's technique and thought...I was a glider all through high school until my senior year. And he was the one I based my technique on. And that throw in '88 in the final round that he won on, I thought was one of the best glides of all time. That particular throw I've watched thousands and thousands of times. And so to break that in my first Olympics, and to win gold, was amazing."
