Jason Kenny would have been forgiven for showing off his three gold medals on Wednesday (August 17) after the British cyclist completed three out of three golds. Kenny admitted to being surprised after an average Olympic build-up.
"I don't know. Last night I was in a funny mood, I was a bit delirious. I think I was just tired because it's been a long five days between racing even with the day off. You don't sleep ever so well. So yes, I was just floating round in my own little world really. I had kind of already accepted that, at the end of the day, whatever happens at that point it was out of my control so fortunately for me, the jury decided to restart with everyone in which I think, obviously because I won I would say it was the right decision, but genuinely I think it was the right decision for the race. It was really close and I think had they not shot the gun, the chances are that not many people would have complained after the race so I think it was ultimately the right decision and obviously I was happy with the outcome."
"Well no because like you say I'd spent three years basically bombing out in the first round. Well no, it had been a difficult three years and I'd been scraping results here and there and this year I just managed to win the Worlds (Championships) so I didn't feel that there was any pressure on me, I didn't feel that there was any expectation to win. I knew it would be difficult and tight and I train with Callum (Skinner) so I knew how Callum was going so I knew that even if the rest of the world was going rubbish, there would be one person at least that was there and in the end there were a couple of other people as well so yes, I knew it would be difficult and I was ready for the fight."
