Kirani James of Grenada reflected on the silver medal he achieved in a historic 400-metre race that was won in a world record time by South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Kirani James, 400-metre Olympic silver medallist: (on the 400-metre final)
"I knew it was a fast race, I wasn't sure the world record was gonna happen. But you know, in a race like that, when you have, you know, three of the most fastest guys in the 400m, anything could happen. And, that's exactly what happened, was you know, the unpredictable. The world record happened to fall this race."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Kirani James, 400-metre Olympic silver medallist: (on Wayde van Niekerk's run)
"He (Wayde van Niekerk) was in lane eight, so I mean it was very difficult for him. He couldn't, he really wasn't running off anybody. So, that's even harder to do, is to run a world record really by yourself. So, I tried to catch up with him, I just couldn't get there, I mean, he just kept going, and peeling (away) and he just kept going faster and faster."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Kirani James, 400-metre Olympic silver medallist: (on whether he can break the new 400-metre world record)
"Well, we'll see, I mean it's tough. I thought you know, 43.18 seconds by Michael Johnson was tough but you know, now, it's going to take something even way crazier, maybe under 43 seconds to beat a time like that."
