New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams talked to SNTV about her silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
SOUNDBITE (English) Valerie Adams, New Zealand shot putter:
"I've struggled a lot since the London Olympics, I've had five surgeries and I've had two surgeries in the last year. Last year I had to cut my season short, last year at this time I didn't know if I was going to be here competing at the Olympic Games. Let alone be competitive, let alone middle, but it was a fantastic competition, I came here and I gave everything I got, and it's the best performance I've done in three years, so I cannot be mad, I cannot be frustrated, I cannot be disappointed. With time I will be able to process it and I'm in peace and happy to know that this my fourth Olympics and I have three Olympic medals now. Sure the gold medal would have been wonderful, but the silver medal is just as beautiful."
SOUNDBITE (English) Valerie Adams, New Zealand shot putter: (On competing against Michelle Carter, USA, at the Rio de Janeiro Games)
"It was very close, and Michelle kind of came through in the last round, and threw a big throw, and it was good, she threw really well. So I always said that you cannot underestimate anyone at any event, and she threw the big throw when it counted, and it counted at the Olympic Games and she won the gold medal. But, you know, I respect her highly, she's a fantastic competitor, and it's great to see her perform. I've been around a long time, you know, I have two gold medals at the Olympics, it would have been great to get the hat-trick, but that's sport"
