Reaction after England led by 311 runs with five wickets in hand at stumps on day four of their third test against Pakistan at Edgbaston on Saturday (6th August).
SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Root, England batsman:
"We had to absorb a little bit of pressure, me and Vincey (James Vince), but, to get through that, and get some sort of partnership together, was really important and then, the way that Jonny (Bairstow) and Moeen (Ali) played tonight was fantastic."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Root, England batsman (on Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali):
"I thought, as I said earlier, I thought the way that both of them played at the back end was outstanding. To go through the gears like that, to score quicker and quicker as that last session went on was, was brilliant."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Joe Root, England batsman:
"More importantly, we've just got to rock up tomorrow in the right mentality to take ten wickets. If we can think how we're going to do that, and create ten chances on that surface, and put the ball in the right areas often enough and take our chances then we've got a really good chance of putting Pakistan under pressure and, and getting a result out of this game."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Mushtaq Ahmed, Pakistan bowling coach:
"Look, sometime you give credit to the batters. Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali played brilliantly, and we were one wicket away from the game actually. When we got Joe Root out and Rahat Ali was bowling beautifully, that maybe that, that early on dropped catch can be vital on that time because, when your ball is in a good rhythm and that is a time when for the new batsman it's very hard to, to face that kind of spell."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Mushtaq Ahmed, Pakistan bowling coach (on Mohammad Hafeez dropping Joe Root):
"So I think that was a crucial time, as I said, that was a crucial time for Pakistan, in this test match. If we could hold that catch it will be a different ball game then because like I said, Rahat (Ali) was bowling beautifully at that time."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Mushtaq Ahmed, Pakistan bowling coach:
"So I think credit goes to sometime like Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali because they took the game away and remember, we're playing with the four bowlers and four bowlers, sometime(s) they get tired. They want to deliver, their mind is there, but you know sometime(s) (the) body is not there, so you don't deliver the best skill."
