Reigning World Endurance champions Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley secured their first victory for Porsche this year at the Six Hours of Nurburgring race on Sunday (24th July).

But the famously dangerous course - the scene of Niki Lauda's notorious crash - was nearly overtaken by tragedy when the Ford Brit Andy Priaulx was driving burst into flames.

The car was refuelling when a problem with the fuel valve caused a flash fire.

The forty-one-year-old escaped injury when his pit crew quickly extinguished the blaze. And Ford's team went on to finish the race unscathed.

Champions Porsche suffered a puncture in the early stages but gradually began to assert themselves from the midway point: beating Audi into second and third place, and ultimately finishing almost a minute clear.
