SOUNDBITE (English) LaShawn Merritt, USA 400m Sprinter: (On how he feels going into Rio Olympics)
"You know what? I'm hungry. I am really hungry I missed out on 2012 (London Olympics) because of an injury, but that's life, things happen. You know, just an unfortunate timing. But, Rio, feeling good. I have been training well down in Florida. The body is feeling good. I am feeling healthy, my mind is strong so I am ready to execute"
SOUNDBITE (English) LaShawn Merritt, USA 400m Sprinter: (On what he is looking forward to at the Rio Olympics)
"I'm really hungry. You know, I understand it is not going to be easy, never count my competitors out. I know they are working just as hard as I am, but I feel like I have been doing this for a long time. You know, it's 10 years at the highest level. I feel like I have a high IQ now. I am really passionate about the sport over the past couple of years because I have learned a lot, because of my new coach (Brooks Johnson). He is really a mental coach. And not only to go out and compete but to wear that Team USA again, that USA uniform and raise that flag and play that national anthem on the top podium. A sweet moment."
SOUNDBITE (English) LaShawn Merritt, USA 400m Sprinter: (On if his age is a factor):
"You know I am feeling good. I understand that I can't train now like I did when I was 21, 22 years old. I am still working hard but I am working smart now I am learning more. And I always think about it like (USA Olympian sprinter) Michael Johnson, the guy who owns the world record in my event (400m) I think he broke it when he was like, going into like 31 years old. So, I don't feel old at all. I just feel like I have a lot experience and like I said, with the passion that I have now, skies are the limit.
