Head coach Trevor Bayliss on Sunday (17th July) insisted he was happy with the England selection process, despite Jimmy Anderson playing for Lancashire on his return from injury rather than against Pakistan in the first Test at Lord's.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Trevor Bayliss, England head coach (Q: Do you think there needs to be a change to the way the side is selected going forward given that Jimmy Anderson is not here and has been bowling for Lancashire?)
"No quite happy with the way the process took place. It was deemed that he needed to prove his fitness in a match and that was the decision that was made. I suppose that if a player is coming back from injury the decision was made that let's have a look at him in a game. If he is going to break down it's better in a county match, than a Test match."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Trevor Bayliss, England head coach (Q: And you expect Jimmy Anderson and Ben Stokes fit for the next game, or indeed do you think they need to be in the team?)
"Well the reports are that they've come through the first day pretty well. Obviously today is the second day of that match, so Jimmy Whitaker is up there watching that match, so we will be catching up in the next...probably tomorrow, to discuss how they've gone and the second Test team."
