England debutant fast bowler Jake Ball said on Thursday (14th July) his first wicket in Test cricket was "a moment I won't forget in a hurry" at the end of the first day's play of the First Test against Pakistan at Lord's.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Jake Ball, England:(on receiving his Test cap before play from his uncle, former England wicket-keeper Bruce French)
"No, that sort of settled me down. He sort of just said how proud the whole family are of me and obviously to receive it from my uncle was an extra special moment. Yeah, it was nice, he was holding back the tears which was extra special again to receive it from him. It just settled me down a little bit actually."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Jake Ball, England:(on his view of the pitch)
"I think it's a little bit slower than we'd like. I think we've had a couple of nicks that haven't quite carried and the ones that have, have sort of gone really low so I think it's a wicket for being patient and sort of just trying to hit a good length and hopefully the batter makes a mistake."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Jake Ball, England:(on the importance of taking two late wickets)
"We sort of said, up in the dressing room at the end there the two wickets have given everybody a big lift and we now know that if we can come out in the morning and get a couple of quick wickets and try to restrict them to about 350 then we're well in the game."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Jake Ball, England:(on his first wicket)
"Yeah, it was very anxious. When I first saw it, I thought it may have been slipping down (the leg side) so I sort of resigned myself to go back to my mark but to see it just clipping was a real relief and a moment that I won't forget in a hurry."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Jake Ball, England:(on his suitability for Test cricket)
"Yeah, I think so, I'm sort of quite a clam character and I know today, well yesterday when people were texting me and sort of giving me their advice it was just to go out and enjoy it and be yourself and do the things I've been doing all season. And I took that in today and hopefully I did that and proved to people that I can play Test cricket."
