Alistair Cook said it is "very special" to have made 10,000 career test runs as England wrapped up a nine-wicket win in the second test against Sri Lanka on Monday (30th May).
SOUNDBITE: (English) Alistair Cook, England captain (On the result)
"It's been a good two weeks to win a game by an innings and then win by nine wickets it's been a good effort. These last couple days it was tough actually. The pitch died a death and was a little bit more like Colombo than the Chester-le-street we've known in the past. It made us work hard for it and I suppose it's sometimes a little bit sweeter and you feel you have earned your beer tonight."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Alistair Cook, England captain (On reaching 10,000 career test runs)
"The 10,000 has been a milestone which certainly driven me over the last few years. You get tested at the top of the order in all sorts of conditions, against the best bowlers in the world and against the new ball and I'm proud I have hung around long enough to score enough runs not to get dropped. In one sense you've still always got stuff to prove and Jimmy (Anderson) said no matter how many wickets he gets your next innings is what you really look for. Now I can look back today and be really happy with what I've achieved in that sense."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Alistair Cook, England captain (On how many career test runs he thinks he can score)
"Who knows, you just don't know. I never thought I would get 10,000, but now I'm here I suppose I'll have to have a rethink and set something else personally because I think you do need those to drive you. That's what gets me up early in the morning to go running or have a bat with (Graham Gooch) or whatever training I'm doing. Because if I'm still doing that I'm still hungry to try and achieve stuff."
