Fast bowler Steven Finn said the England players were not disappointed they did not wrap up the second Test on Sunday (29th May) after Sri Lanka showed some fight with the bat for the first time this series at the Riverside.

"We didn't have any preconceived ideas. In a ideal world we would have wrapped it up today. We've had three bowling innings where everything has gone perfect and on this particular wicket it was going to be tough to get ten wickets in a day two days in a row. I thought we bowled well, applied ourselves well because it is very slow and very low."

"Our mantra so far through the series has been trying to starve Sri Lanka of runs and hopefully that will bring us wickets. Not trying to run up bowling jaffas every ball because especially on a wicket such as that it's hard work. That was my way that I felt I could starve them of runs through that spell and thankfully it worked."

"I was just trying to run in as hard as I can. It's no secret I've been searching for rhythm through this series. It's been there in patches and it hasn't been there in patches which was obviously frustrating from my point of view. It's getting there and spells like that where you do charge in and just try to smash the deck as hard as you can without your rhythm because you're not thinking about yourself, you're thinking about what's happened at the other end and I think that's a good head space to get into."

"We've got a four-over-old ball tomorrow morning and we've seen that the new ball has done a lot of damage so far throughout the series. We've got two of the best new ball bowlers in the world and we are playing four seamers so tomorrow morning is a good opportunity for us to come in and make early inroads, expose that Sri Lankan tail and then try and take advantage of it."
