Reaction after England beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 88 runs inside three days in the first Test at Headingley on Saturday (21st May).
SOUNDBITE (English) Alastair Cook, England captain:
(on the match, Johnny Bairstow's innings and England's bowling attack)
"Yeah, obviously at the beginning of a series you, certainly in the conditions, with the rain around, that we would be (favourites) against a young Sri Lanka side. I thought the way we went about our business, we were clearly under pressure at 80 for five in the first innings and then the way that Alex (Hales) and Jonny (Bairstow) played, that partnership kind of set up the win and... Jonny was playing on a different wicket to the other 21 guys who were playing there, so it was an extraordinary innings and set it up... and then the bowlers you've got in these (conditions)... You don't want to take it for granted, but you kind of knew that if those two bowlers, the skill we know they've got, it would be really hard work for them (Sri Lanka). So, it was a really good performance, really happy for the guys and we can move on from here."
SOUNDBITE (English) Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka captain:
(on the defeat and England's bowling attack)
"Yeah, it was quite an embarrassing defeat. Well, you have to be really skilful to bat against these guys, especially in these conditions. Anderson showed once again his class, Stuart Broad was brilliant as well, one or two of our guys needed to raise their hands up and put up a good score, especially on the first inning, but we didn't do that in the first innings and once again, we failed to do that in the second innings, so it was, you know, the obvious reason for our defeat."
