The IAAF's ethics board on Friday (8th April) rejected a challenge from the CEO of Athletics Kenya against his provisional suspension for allegedly soliciting bribes from two athletes. SNTV speaks to IAAF investigator Sharad Rao about Mwangi's case.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Sharad Rao, Investigator for IAAF ethics board in Kenya:
"I was informed that Issac Mwangi had actually formally objected to the suspension and he had filed an application to the IAAF ethics board to have the suspension set aside. That matter was dully heard, I believe that Issac Mwangi put up a defence and he also produced a number of statements to back up his assertion that he was not actually guilty of the allegations against him. As I know understand, IAAF have made a formal statement that that application has been dismissed and the suspension remains."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Sharad Rao, Investigator for IAAF ethics board in Kenya:
"So accordingly, I now step in formally as an investigator to start investigating the complaints and I have just about, a few minutes ago in fact, written to the lawyers who are acting for him, with a copy to him, that now that that matter has been concluded, that I am now formally taking over the investigations in regards to Issac Mwangi."
