Jason Roy hit a 44-ball 78 as England beat New Zealand by seven wickets on Wednesday (30th March) to book their place in the World T20 final.

England faced unbeaten New Zealand on Tuesday in the first of the World T20 semi-finals.

Batting first having been put in by England, Martin Guptill was an early loss for the Black Caps when he was caught by Jos Buttler to leave his side poised at 17/1.

But New Zealand showed plenty of composure and cruised to 89/1 after 10 overs, with Kane Williamson and Colin Munro combining well.

Williamson fell first - caught and bowled by Moeen Ali for 32.

Munro fell shortly afterwards, hammering a Liam Plunkett delivery for Ali to catch after contributing 46.

With the score 107/3, the run rate slowed considerably as New Zealand limped on.

Eoin Morgan took a superb diving catch to ensure that Ross Taylor was out for 6, and with Ben Stokes picking up three late wickets for the loss of just 26 runs, New Zealand struggled to a modest 153/8 off their 20 overs.

Jason Roy and Alex Hales opened the batting strongly for England.

The pair powered on and before Hales was caught by Munro off a Mitchell Santner delivery for the first wicket of the innings with England at 82/1.

Roy reached a total of 78 including 13 boundaries, before he was bowled out by Ish Sodhi to leave the side at 110/2.

Morgan was dismissed for a duck for the second time in the tournament, but if an England collapse was expected, it didn't materialise.

Joe Root and Jos Buttler duly steered the team home with the latter contributing three late sixes to ensure that England took the win with something to spare.

India face West Indies on Thursday too se who will play England in the final.
