Volkswagen team mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Sebastien Ogier continued their battle for supremacy at Rally Finland , with the local favourite Latavala just having the the edge over world champion Ogier.
The thrilling battle for top spot between Finnish driver Latvala and Frenchman Ogier continued as they took on the unforgiving gravel tracks of Rally Finland.
Perhaps buoyed by his home crowd, it was Latvala who did enough to keep his Volkeswagen team mate at bay, opening up a 6.2 second advantage at the top of the leaderboard after stage 16.
But here were mixed fortunes for the Citroen drivers as Mads Ostberg moved into third spot after his team mate Kris Meeke crashed out and broke a wheel during stage 16.
Dani Sordo also endured a difficult afternoon - the Spaniard tumbling down the standings after sliding wide and off into a ditch.
Sordo eventually managed to haul his Hyundai back on the road with the help of some spectators - but not before losing more than five minutes.
Such crashes aren't surprising here. Finland is a notoriously difficult track - it is full of blind corners, blind crests and high jumps across forests and dense trees
