7msports > Racing Video > Wittman claims DTM Zandvoort opener
-
Intro:
Scotsman Paul di Resta crashed out on the first corner of DTM Zandvoort as reigning champion Marco Wittmann claimed victory in the first race of the weekend.
Script:
The fourth round of DTM - and perfect conditions at Zandvoort.
The first corner proved too much for former champion Paul di Resta however..
The Scotsman hit the gravel then the wall.
His race over before it really began.
At the other end of the field Marco Wittmann was out in front despite starting second on the grid.
Antonio Felix da Costa was hot on his tail.
As long as nothing silly happened - the BMW crew were happy as the track claimed a number of drivers including the dangerous Gary Paffett of Mercedes.
Wittmann went on to victory - da Costa was a mere 0.4 of a second back after 25 laps.
SOUNDBITE: Marco Wittmann, race winner
"At the end it is a great result for BMW overall after a difficult start to the season. To have such a race today was really great and a good motivation for all of the team, for everybody."
Maxime Martin secured third, Augusto Farfus fourth.
Race two is on Sunday.
