Following the confirmation that Wayne Rooney has today returned to former club Everton from Manchester United, the Red Devils have taken to social media to post a brilliant tribute to the Old Trafford legend.
Goodison return
Having spent 13 trophy-laden years with United since his arrival at the club in 2004, the form of the English international has dipped considerably over recent seasons, with many in agreement that a fresh start could be exactly what Rooney needs to rediscover some of his old magic.
A return to boyhood club Everton has been on the cards for several weeks now, with official confirmation of the striker's move coming early this afternoon.
Legend
Despite his recent struggles, Rooney will go down as one of the greatest players in the long and storied history of Manchester United, having scored a sensational 253 goals to make himself the club's all-time top goalscorer, sitting second behind only Alan Shearer in the Premier League's all-time scoring charts.
He also racked up 5 Premier League titles, 3 League Cups, 1 FA Cup, 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League and 1 Club World Cup with the Reds.
Goodbye
And, in a sendoff fitting for a true legend of the game, Manchester United have today posted the following video across their social media channels, as the club's staff and fans bid farewell to one of the greatest players to ever grace the Old Trafford turf:
