Vandals destroy a Luis Suarez statue in Uruguay

Anyone trying to find the statue of Luis Suarez in the city of Salto in Uruguay will eventually fail to spot it, as vandals pulled it down and destroyed it over the course of the night.
Shortly after the incident, the sculpture was taken to the city's town hall to be fixed, as its face was severely damaged after it was toppled.
Instead of the statue, any passers-by will now find a note which reads "I went to Messi's wedding and I'll be back soon", which was left by a local.
At around 5:00 in the morning, a taxi driver reported to the authorities that the statue was on the ground, while assuring the police that he had seen a young woman climbing up the statue to take photos.
The accused later admitted to police that she had climbed up the sculpture, but denied that she had thrown it to the ground.
According to the Uruguayan newspaper Subrayado, Leonardo Boruchovas, the man behind the Suarez tribute piece, has said that it will not be cheap to repair.
