Modric: I have a clear conscience, I've not committed any crime

The Croatian prosecutor's office opened an investigation into Luka Modric last month on the suspicion that he gave a false testimony in the trial of former Dinamo Zagreb director Zdravko Mamic, but the player is keeping calm and insists he has done nothing wrong.

Modric had also given evidence in a case in 2015 and it is alleged that he deviated from that original testimony, specifically regarding the dates and details of a contract, in order to paint Mamic in a more favourable light.

"I have come here to present my defence and to tell the truth, as I have done every other time before now," the 31-year-old told the court in Osijek, in eastern Croatia, on Wednesday.

"I have a clear conscience."

"I am convinced that I have not committed any crime."Giving a false testimony is a punishable offence in the country, although the court has not stated what sentence the midfielder could face if he is found guilty.
