Manchester United have bid €25m for Barcelona star

Manchester United are pursuing Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez and have submitted a €25m offer, according to Italian newspaper Lastampa.it.
The reports have been picked up by Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo and last week, Spanish newspaper Sport reported that United were one of three clubs to have a bid rejected by Barcelona for Sanchez, so these latest stories support that claim.
In a season where Barcelona underperformed, Sanchez excelled with 19 goals and 11 assists, his best return since he moved to Spain in 2011 despite being heavily linked with United.
For the past two years, United's wingers have been very poor. Antonio Valencia has never recovered from his leg break, Nani has been thwarted by long term injuries while Ashley Young has been, well, Ashley Young.
The rise of Adnan Januzaj, the improvement of Shinji Kagawa and the arrival of Juan Mata gave United some attacking impetus from the wings but someone like Sanchez would be a big improvement on our current options.
With the World Cup only six days away, it is more than likely that we'll have to wait until after the tournament before there is real progress with any transfers but there seems to be some legs in the Sanchez story, so we'll keep track of its progress.
