Liverpool interested in Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho and set transfer conditions

LIVERPOOL are interested in re-signing Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, reports say.

Liverpool offloaded Coutinho to Barcelona back in January 2018, with the Brazil international moving to the Nou Camp in a £142million transfer.

At the time, many expected the Samba star to be a huge hit given how well he performed in the Premier League.

But Coutinho has suffered since his Liverpool exit, struggling for form at Barcelona while his former club have gone on to win the Champions League trophy.

Given the playmaker’s struggles, talk of a move away from Catalonia this summer has been rife.

And Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo say that Liverpool are interested in re-signing the player.

Coutinho’s preference is said to be a return to England this summer despite PSG aiming to land him as part of any Neymar swap deal.

He has ruled out Manchester United because they are not competing in the Champions League.

And a move to Chelsea has also been discarded because of the Blues’ transfer ban.

The report says, though, that Liverpool will not break the bank to bring Coutinho back to Merseyside.

They are reluctant to fork out a similar amount than what they sold the player for nearly 18 months ago.

And how Coutinho’s future plays out remains to be seen.

Should Barcelona land Neymar and Antoine Griezmann there appears little chance of him getting game time.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher recently admitted Coutinho would be a good signing for his old club.

"I wouldn't say I would be actively going to get him, but if there was a possibility of bringing Coutinho back for decent money, and Barca wanted to cut their losses a little bit because it hasn't worked out, then I'd do that," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"Would he be welcomed back? I'm not sure. But he should be. I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be.

"I know he got a little bit of stick when he came back (with Barcelona for the Champions League semi-final earlier this month) because he wanted to move.

"But Alonso wanted to move to Real Madrid, Suarez wanted to move to Barcelona, and we still loved them when they went.

"Sometimes we pick and choose who we love when they leave. Nobody forced any player to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona, Mascherano is another one.

"Suarez only got stick when he came back because of his antics in the first game (against Liverpool), if he hadn't done that then he'd be adored when he came back. What's the difference between him and Coutinho?"
