Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah should snub a move to Real Madrid for Barcelona - Eto'o

That is the view of ex-Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, who made 199 appearances for Barcelona after progressing through the youth academy of their bitter rivals Real Madrid earlier in his career.

Mohamed Salah has taken the footballing world by storm since joining Liverpool from Roma for an initial fee of £36.9million in 2017.

The Egyptian hammered home 44 goals in his debut season at Anfield while setting a new record of 32 Premier League goals in a single campaign.

Salah scored 27 goals the following year on his way to winning his first major European trophy as Liverpool lifted the Champions League, but Eto’o has now urged the 27-year-old to move to the "best league in the world."

When asked whether Madrid or Barcelona would be a better destination for the winger, three-time La Liga winner Eto’o had a clear answer.

"Barcelona would be a better fit," he told BBC Sport.

"Real gave me the opportunity to leave Africa but I know Barcelona's style and I think it would be better for him.

"If he has the chance to play in the best league of the world, which is the Spanish one, he has to sign for Barcelona.

"Mo has everything to be one of the best players in the world."

Although Salah has been open about his desire to remain in Liverpool for the foreseeable future, Reds legend Graeme Souness admitted earlier this month that he is worried about both Salah and Sadio Mane being tempted by one of the Spanish giants.

"Real Madrid and Barcelona will be sniffing round Salah and Mane and I think one of them will be targeted this summer," Souness told the Irish Independent.

"Both of those clubs are in the process of rebuilding and they tend to tempt any player when they go after them.

"Liverpool are a massive football club and they have proved they are back on top after reaching the Champions League final for two years in succession.

"But a lot of players find it hard to say no when Real Madrid and Barcelona go after you.

"We saw that in the past with Luiz Suarez and Philippe Coutinho and even though they enjoyed playing for Liverpool.

"Their heads were turned when Barcelona wanted them. That will happen again now with Salah and Mane."
