Stephen Humphrys blow for Southend

Stephen Humphrys could be sidelined for a number of weeks as his injuries were laid bare ahead of Southend’s clash against Barnsley.

Humphrys headed the Shrimpers in front against Accrington last weekend but, in doing so, collided with Stanley goalkeeper Jonny Maxted, leaving the forward with a broken nose and cheekbone, as well as a fractured eye socket and concussion.

Winger Michael Kightly is expected to have recovered from a groin injury while fellow midfielder Dru Yearwood is available following a three-match suspension.

Defenders Jason Demetriou (knee) and John White (groin) and goalkeeper Mark Oxley (back) have returned to light training.

Barnsley have been rocked by the news that 16-goal top-scorer Kieffer Moore will be out for the remainder of the season.

Moore has missed the Tykes’ last three games following a head injury he suffered in the 4-1 win at Gillingham on February 9 and, after consulting with medical personnel, it has been decided the striker will miss the rest of the campaign.

Defender Ben Williams, who has not played since the end of January, is continuing his recovery from a calf problem and is again likely to miss out.

But boss Daniel Stendel has no new injury or suspension concerns for the trip to Roots Hall.
