Hyde nets winner as Woking dump his old club out of FA Cup

Jake Hyde’s second half header ensured a 1-0 win for Woking as the sixth tier side dumped his old club Swindon out of the FA Cup.

The Cards, who are 36 places behind League Two Swindon in the football pyramid, took the lead in the 56th minute.

Hyde, who came through the academy system at Swindon, nodded in a Josh Casey cross to spark scenes of jubilation in the away end.

Woking were under pressure during the first 45, but goalkeeper Craig Ross was rarely troubled, and only had to make one save of note when he denied Jak McCourt from range.

Non-league Woking did have a penalty shout in the first half but referee Matthew Donohue saw nothing wrong in Ellis Iandolo’s challenge on Max Kretzschmar.

Swindon almost leveled but Scott Twine’s close-range effort was well blocked by a last-ditch Woking challenge.

Victory for Woking means they will be playing in the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in 22 years.
