Ronaldo and his Portugal squad and Salah's Egypt could realistically meet in the last-16 of the World Cup.

And ahead of the tournament in Russia, Ronaldo has revealed he believes Salah is in the running for the top individual accolade of the year - the Ballon d'Or.

Ronaldo claimed: "Mo Salah has been one of the revelations of the year.

"I hope his injury in the final in Kiev doesn't keep him out [of the World Cup].

"Many people talk about the Cristiano Ronaldo-Lionel Messi battle but there are other players who have chances to enter the race [for the Ballon d'Or].

"Salah is one of them."

During May's European finale, Salah trudged off the field in tears after tangling with Sergio Ramos and badly damaging his shoulder.

And the Egyptian still appears to be struggling after being seen wincing on Monday after a fan accidentally grabbed his sore arm.
