Crystal Palace vs Newcastle - Bakary Sako faces lengthy spell on sidelines
Posted Saturday, February 03, 2018 by PA
Crystal Palace will be without Bakary Sako for Sunday’s Premier League match against Newcastle.
The forward will miss the rest of the season with a fractured ankle and damaged ligaments, but deadline-day signing Alexander Sorloth is available.
Defender Jeffrey Schlupp (knee) and midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek (ankle) are both in recovery, while Scott Dann, Jason Puncheon and Connor Wickham will all miss the remainder of the season because of major knee injuries.
Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez will make a late decision on loan signing Islam Slimani.
The Algeria striker arrived from Leicester on deadline day nursing a minor thigh injury and although he has been training with the physios on Tyneside since, he will be assessed before Benitez names his team.
Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka will go straight into the squad after completing his switch from Sparta Prague and he will be joined by Rob Elliot following his recovery from a back problem, but defenders Jesus Gamez (ankle) and Florian Lejeune (foot) are still out.
