Uruguayan football suspended indefinitely after fans attack referee leading to Luis Suarez calling for 'no more violence'

BARCELONA star Luis Suarez has called for calm in Uruguay as violence broke out at an Under-19's game on Saturday.
The Uruguay Football Association (AUF) announced a suspension to all footballing activities following the incident in which fans and players launched an assault on the officials.

A statement from AUF read: "Given the resolution taken by the Uruguay Football Referees' Association (AUDAF), the AUF has suspended all activity for all disciplines and levels for Sunday (24/9)."
In an attempt to ease tensions Suarez,30,took to social media to plead with supporters to put a stop to the ugly scenes that have shamed his country.
Suarez said on twitter: "No more violence in football, let's live a football in peace and without violence, enjoying this beautiful sport in our country. Let's respect everyone."
Both match officials required medical treatment after the attack at the game between hosts Platense and visitors Basanez.
The brawl started when the referee told a child to stop throwing stones onto the playing field.
The assistant referee, a female, was then attacked after attempting to pull the adults and players away from the referee.

AUDAF president Marcelo De Leon revealed his officials did their best to keep thing under control.
De Leon radio station FM Del Sol: "Our attacked official [Roca] spoke to the Platense [team] delegate to tell the child to stop.
"However, he [delegate] turned against him, insulting him, before parents joined in and attacked our colleague in a cowardly way.
"Platense starters and subs as well as one Basanez player also took part in the aggression."
De Leon added: "She [assistant referee Fernandez] saw the brutal attack that her colleague was getting and tried to separate them but ended up being hit... she was kicked and punched by the Platense players."
