Manchester United are targeting Monaco star Fabinho
MANCHESTER UNITED transfer target Fabinho rejected Barcelona earlier this summer, according to shock reports in Spain.
Manchester United are aiming to tinker with their squad as they target a Premier League title hilt next season.
The Red Devils have already tied up one deal in the form of Benfica's Victor Lindelof, who was announced earlier this month.
However, United CEO Ed Woodward is struggling when it comes to landing Jose Mourinho's top summer targets.
Express Sport understands they are closing in on Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata, who became their No1 target in the wake of Antoine Griezmann's snub.
And they are also aiming to sign the likes of Chelsea's Nemanja Matic and Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic.
Monaco midfielder Fabinho is another name being linked, with the 23-year-old playing a starring role as Leonardo Jardim's side pipped Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title.
And Spanish outlet Don Balon have sensationally claimed the Brazil international rejected a move to Barcelona earlier this summer.
The midfielder, who can also operate at full-back, supposedly turned down the Catalan giants because he has set his sights firmly on a move to Old Trafford.
Speaking back in February, Fabinho admitted he was aware of interest from the Red Devils.
But he also appeared to hint he would prefer a move to United's fierce rivals Manchester City instead.
"We have talked to Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, we have even been approached by Barcelona, but it didn't go any further," he said.
"We like Manchester United and the work of [Jose] Mourinho, but we have a little soft spot for City."
