Chelsea are set to break their transfer record to sign defender Alex Sandro from Juventus in a £61 million deal.
It's been a quiet summer in terms of incomings for the reigning Premier League champions. In fact they've yet to bolster their squad, but have allowed the likes of John Terry, Bertrand Traore and Juan Cuadrado to depart.
However, with the opening of the transfer window fast approaching it would appear owner Roman Abramovich is ready to splash the cash.
Left-back Sandro has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks and has indicated to Juventus that he is eager to join the Blues, as reported by The Times.
If the deal goes ahead then it will surpass the £50 million move that saw Chelsea sign Fernando Torres from Liverpool in 2011.
Alex Sandro was successful with 52% of his attempted take-ons in Serie A last season.
In addition Sandro, who has been capped by Brazil on seven occasions, would become the most expensive defender in world football as his transfer fee would be higher than the £50 million that Paris Saint-Germain paid to sign David Luiz from Chelsea in 2014.
Marcos Alonso was a revelation at left wing-back for Chelsea in their title winning success last season following his surprise switch from Fiorentina, but it appears that the Spaniard's spell as a first-choice option for the Blues may be shortlived.
Sandro averaged five defensive actions per game in Serie A last season and also provided a notable attacking threat as he created 50 chances, the third highest amount in the Juventus squad.
