Jose Mourinho allegedly tells two key Man Utd players they can leave

It's set to be a busy summer at Manchester United. With much work needed to be done on his squad, Jose Mourinho is expected to hit the transfer market hard in order to get the team in shape for a renewed title challenge next term.

Red Devils fans can be excited at the prospect of a number of new and exciting faces being brought in as well as a few players being shipped out to make way for their arrival.

However, a few of the players to be making way won't be the kind of players that fans will want to lose. Usually, those leaving over the summer are typically those unable to make an impact on the first team and will move on in order to get more regular game time elsewhere.

But according to a report in Spanish publication Marca, Mourinho has apparently told two of his key men that they are free to leave during the summer transfer window.

And it's not because the players in question aren't good enough - far from it - it's because he doesn't want any players in his squad who would rather be somewhere else.

The report claims that Mourinho has already held conversations with Spanish duo David De Gea and Ander Herrera about their futures, as well as veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ibrahimovic's departure would come as no surprise to anybody, as his injury is mooted to take nine months to recover from, while his one-year deal expires at the end of the current campaign.

David De Gea's future has been in doubt for around a year now, with the Spain international being linked with a move to Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane's men are known to be in the hunt for a goalkeeper to replace Keylor Navas and both De Gea and Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois have been tipped as potential replacements.

The player has kept quiet on the speculation for the most part, but his girlfriend is keen on a return home, informing friends of her unhappiness at being based in the north of England.

However, Herrera being told he can go is very puzzling indeed. Only last week the former Athletic Bilbao man was being hailed as a future captain following a star performance in the win over Chelsea.

Certainly, he has never hinted at being unhappy at the club or wanting to be somewhere else, so his inclusion is very strange.

The report contains neither his reason for wanting to leave or the possible destination he would depart for, so could it be that Marca has got this wrong? Only time will tell.
