Virgil van Dijk has attracted interest from the Premier League's elite clubs
ARSENE WENGER has reportedly made a move to sign Virgil van Dijk at Arsenal.
The Gunners are looking to bolster their defensive options this summer.
And Southampton's star man has long been a target of Arsenal from his Celtic days.
With Arsene Wenger having successfully adopted a three-man defence in recent matches, it could be the way forward at the Emirates.
Despite Chelsea's desire to land Van Dijk at the end of the season, Arsenal are ready to rival them.
According to The Telegraph, the Gunners will even ensure they match any wages offered by other clubs for the 25-year-old.
There is said to be a growing sense Van Dijk will leave St Mary's, and Southampton want to maximise his transfer value.
The Dutchman, who shone in the first half of the campaign prior to his serious ankle injury, is expected to cost around £50million.
Arsenal apparently acknowledge FA Cup final opponents Chelsea remain favourites to secure Van Dijk's services.
However, it has not stopped them making an approach, with Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City all having expressed interest too.
If Wenger fails to lure the Southampton centre-half to north London though, alternatives will be assessed.
Antonio Conte is determined to add Van Dijk to his armoury, having reportedly told Chelsea he and Everton hitman Romelu Lukaku are his top two targets.
