Mid-table foes Sampdoria and Udinese could not be separated in a goalless Serie A draw at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
The Bianconeri went close in the 10th minute as Duvan Zapata tested Christian Puggioni with a fearsome drive, and Samp responded when Fabio Quagliarella saw his snapshot deflected out for a corner.
Samp dominated the second half with Quagliarella controlling the ball on his chest before making Orestis Karnezis punch clear, while Patrik Schick's late attempt on the turn fizzed just past a post.
Heading into the winter break, Samp are 13th but only two points behind top-half dwellers Udinese.
