Lukas Podolski has just reached number one in the German music charts

A song inspired by former Arsenal star Lukas Podolski has hit number one in the German music charts.

The track, ‘Love Your City’ was the brainchild of the ex-Gunners striker, and performed by German music stars Mo-Torres and Cat Ballou.

The video, which can be seen below, heavily features Poldi and the song is essentially a love letter to his hometown of Cologne.

The 31-year-old still plays for Turkish side Galatasaray, but found enough time to inspire the German hitmakers to produce their track, which has become the most downloaded song in the German charts over the past week.

Posting on Instagram, Podolski said the support for the song was ‘unbelievable’.

He added: “It is unbelievable what happened the last few days. I would like to thank you for the support of our song "Liebe deine Stadt”. I have not expected the success so far!”

The song describes the love Colonians have for their city, something Podolski has expressed many times before in his career.

He started his footballing journey in the city, and played over a hundred times for the club before moving to Bayern Munich.
