The pair were commentating on the Three Lions’ prospects against Spain before their international friendly last night (November 15).

Accompanied by Wales manager Chris Coleman and Lee Dixon, the ITV punditry team were giving their thoughts on Jamie Vardy’s goalscoring drought – which before the match had seen him go 14 games for club and country without a goal.

Wrighty was asked by host Mark Pougatch what it was like to go through such a barren spell.

The ex-Gunners ace – however – took this as a chance to throw a swipe at Giggs.

"Giggsy, what’s it like not scoring for that amount of time because I don’t know,” the 53-year-old said.

But the former Red Devils star didn’t take very kindly to the banter.

He said: “Why are you being nasty, that’s so nasty. I was an assister.”

Coincidentally, Jamie Vardy did end up scoring England’s second as they looked guaranteed to secure victory.

But two late goals from Iago Aspas and Isco ended the Three Lions’ hopes of a memorable win, with the match ending 2-2.
