30 years since Ferguson's Manchester United debut
A 2-0 defeat against Oxford in Scottish coach's first game

It is the 30 year anniversary of one of the most legendary and celebrated coaches in football history, since it was on this day that Alex Ferguson took charge of Manchester United for the first time in a 2-0 loss against Oxford United.
Unlike today's immediate demands expected of modern management, the Scottish boss took his time to settle in, and his first three seasons in fact, were far from successful.
Eventually however, Ferguson turned things around, ushering in one of the most succesful periods in club history, including 13 league titles and two Champions Leagues.
